Q&A: James Barker Band

Ahead of their gig in Tut's on Wednesday 13th November, we get to know James Barker Band...

Describe your sound in 3 words.

Country, Progressive, Upbeat

What music did you listen to growing up?

We all listened to everything, from The Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Matchbox Twenty, and Blink 182, to George Strait, Eric Church and Keith Urban!

Tell us the inspiration behind your hit single ‘There’s a Drink for That’…

We thought it would be really funny to use the “there’s an app for that” saying, and apply it to drinking, and there really is a drink for every situation out there!

Favourite Glasgow hang outs?

This will actually be our very first time in Glasgow, so we’re taking suggestions!!

Favourite venue you’ve ever performed?

It’s so hard to say, we’ve played so many amazing shows at amazing venues. I think I have to say when we played Watershed Festival at The Gorge in Washington state, that probably takes the cake. It’s so scenic, it’s pretty hard to compare to that!

If you could have dinner with anyone in music past or present who would it be, and why?

I think John Lennon, just because I geek out so hard on song writing, I would just love to have the opportunity to pick his brain on how they used to write.

Is there anything that you can’t go on tour without?

We always have to go on tour with our gym gear. When your cramped up in a bus for a month going to the gym is a good way to burn energy, instead of getting in fights with your fellow band members.

Tell us about your most memorable gig…

I think our most memorable gig has to be at a festival back near our homes in Ontario, called Boots & Hearts. In 2015 we won their Emerging Artist Showcase, and with that we were given the opportunity to come back the following year and open up for Tim McGraw, and to our surprise, thousands of our hometown fans turned out early just to see our set. That’s something we’ll never forget!

If you could have one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Probably Come Together by The Beatles. The song will be cool until the end of time.

Any exciting plans for 2020?

2020 Is going to be a year of shows for us. We’re going to be going on a big headlining tour in Canada, playing shows all over the United States, and hopefully coming back to see our lovely new friends in the UK and Europe!!
