Rising Aberdeen band Cold Years were tipped as one of the ‘Hottest Bands of 2019’ by Kerrang!. Magazine and they headline Summer Nights with Coors Light on 3rd August. Support from Crashes, Wrthless and Painting Rockets. Check out their single ‘Breathe’ .
Your name was on the cover of Kerrang! Magazine at the start of this year as you were listed as one of the ‘Hottest Bands of 2019’, how did that feel?!
Incredible. It was quite a surreal moment for the band. I’ve read kerrang since I was a kid. It was like gateway to so many great bands for me as a kid and it’s like this huge institution to me. They’ve been so good to us as we have progressed as a band and they’ve always been super supportive of what we do. Really grateful for the support.
What can we expect from your forthcoming album? Do you have a release date?
It’s a lot more punk for sure. I don’t believe in bands that do the same thing over and over again and we’ve definitely changed it up a bit, but obviously it’s still very us. To me these songs have a real message behind them and I really believe in them. We all put so much work in to them and I think that really comes across. There’s definitely a lot more punch to this one. We weren’t scared to really push for the record we wanted. There is no release date set as yet but im sure there will be some details coming very soon.
Tell us about the first gig you ever played?
With Cold Years it was a Local Charity event at one of the Venues in Aberdeen just after we formed the band.
What music did you listen to growing up?
This is a tough one. Can I say both? (I know that’s cheating!) From the past - jimi Hendrix. He was a truly fascinating human being and I’d have love to have seen how his mind worked. He used to sit in cafes and write songs on napkins. From the present - probably Josh Homme. Legit the coolest guy in the world.
Any other Scottish bands/artists you’ll be checking out at KTSN19?
We will try and get down to a few shows as there are so many amazing bands in Scotland right now. But one we will be sure to be will be Folda. They are doing some really cool things just now that not many other Bands are, Its refreshing and Mark Recorded Deathchasers so would be good to catch up.
If you could have dinner with anyone in music past or present who would it be, and why?

Is there anything that you can’t go on tour without?
A notebook. I’m forever writing and I think to do this you need to be constantly working. Even on long drives - I see that as an opportunity to write things down. Either phrases or songs.
