Glasweigan alternative-pop duo HYYTS headline Summer Nights with Coors Light on 29th August. Support from Kendama, Russell Stewart and Scarlett Randle.

Last year you opened the show for Boy George and Culture Club at the SSE Hydro. Tell us about that gig!

It was absolutely amazeballs! Boy (we’re on first name basis now,) couldn’t have been nicer and hearing the songs going through that size of place was just mental. Such a surreal and wonderful experience.

What comes first for you, producing the track or writing the lyrics?

It changes every time tbh! We come from really different backgrounds so Sam tends to start on the track and me on the topline and the lyrics but it really is different every time we get in the studio which is one of the things that makes it so fun

How would you describe the music you’re making?

It’s kind of like funky pop. We love pop music and love that it’s getting weird again so we’re trying to join that movement as much as possible. Everything comes down to pop for us; keep everyone dancing and smiling :)

Tell us about the first gig you played?

It was at Clark’s in Dundee and it was suuuper nerve wracking. We got to play with some really good bands (st martiins and the model aeroplanes) who ended up becoming our friends which is lovely! It took us a couple of gigs to find our rhythm but even from the start it was some buzz.

What music did you listen to growing up?

Oh loads of stuff! Personal faves include; Scissor Sisters, George Michael, the Wombles, Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue, David Gray

Any other Scottish bands/artists you’ll be checking out at KTSN19?

Oh yeah!! Magnum Haus are number one for us, they are going to rule the world soon so can’t wait to see them. Swim school are absolutely gorgeous as well. Also Lylo are so fab. We’re sharing a bill with three absolute belters as well so v excited for that!

If you could have dinner with anyone in music past or present who would it be, and why?

What a question! Our top 5 would be every member of Motley Crüe and Mr, Boom. Because imagine that!!!

Is there anything that you can’t go on tour without?

Our laptop, it has everything on it. Kinda like when David Guetta lost his set on an mp3 and had to cancel his world tour. Also a power of toilet roll thanks so much for having us and interviewing us!! Loads of love, HYYTS xxx
